At Fairmont Hanoi, sustainability and being an Eco-friendly Luxury Hotel in Hanoi is part of how we make decisions, operate our hotel and shape the experiences we create.
Our approach considers the environmental, sociocultural, quality, health and safety impacts of our activities, with the aim of conserving resources, reducing waste and pollution, supporting our local community and creating lasting value for our guests, colleagues, partners and the city around us.
As part of Accor’s global commitment to responsible hospitality, our Sustainability Management Plan 2026 provides a framework for integrating these principles throughout the hotel – from guestrooms and restaurants to wellness, events and behind-the-scenes operations.
It also guides how we measure our progress, identify opportunities for improvement and work together with our colleagues, guests, owners, suppliers and community partners towards a more responsible future for hospitality.

Reducing Our Environmental Impact
Energy & Carbon
Thoughtful design and technology help us use energy more efficiently while maintaining the comfort of our guests.
Across Fairmont Hanoi, our initiatives include:
– A Building Management System to monitor and optimise energy use across major hotel systems.
– A Guest Room Management System that centrally controls air-conditioning, lighting, curtains and other electrical equipment according to room use.
– High-efficiency chilled-water systems, motors, pumps and air distribution.
– LED lighting throughout the majority of the property.
– Energy and water metering and ongoing monitoring to identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
Energy, water and gas consumption are tracked regularly, with monthly performance recorded through Accor’s sustainability reporting platform.
Preserving Water Resources
Water is an essential resource, particularly across a hotel with extensive culinary, wellness and guest facilities.
Our water management programme includes water-efficient taps and showers, monitoring across high-consumption areas, preventive maintenance and the reuse of condensate water from our cooling systems where appropriate.
Guests are also invited to participate through our linen and towel reuse programme, helping reduce unnecessary water and energy consumption during their stay.
Reducing Waste & Single-Use Plastics as an Eco-Friendly Luxury Hotel in Hanoi
We are progressively reducing waste throughout the hotel by looking closely at what we purchase, how materials are used and what happens after use.
Waste is segregated across major operational areas including kitchens, banquets, housekeeping and administration, with dedicated streams for recyclable, food and hazardous waste.
We are also working towards the elimination of 100% of non-exempted single-use plastic items by the end of 2026, replacing guest-facing plastics and working with suppliers to reduce unnecessary packaging wherever possible
.
Rethinking Food for the Future
Food is one of the most meaningful ways hospitality can create positive change.
At Fairmont Hanoi, our culinary approach focuses on three areas: local sourcing, reducing food waste and encouraging more responsible choices.
At least 50% of our food ingredients are targeted to be sourced locally, supporting Vietnamese farmers, producers and businesses while helping shorten the distance between source and table.
To better understand and reduce food waste, we use Orbisk, an artificial intelligence-powered food waste measurement system. Its data helps our culinary teams refine procurement, menu planning and kitchen practices.
We are also introducing initiatives such as hybrid breakfast service, plant-based choices across our dining outlets and carbon menu assessments to better understand the environmental impact of the food we serve.
Surplus food can still have value. Through our collaboration with VietHarvest, suitable unconsumed food is redirected through food donation programmes to support local organisations in Hanoi.
Supporting our Community
For us, sustainability extends beyond the walls of the hotel.
Fairmont Hanoi seeks long-term relationships with organisations creating meaningful impact within our community, with a focus on social wellbeing, education, skills development and opportunities for vulnerable communities.
Through our partnership with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, we support an organisation helping children and vulnerable people affected by exploitation, abuse and human trafficking to build safer, more independent lives.
Our planned activities include sharing culinary knowledge with Blue Dragon’s canteen team to help enhance everyday meals for the children, alongside colleague volunteering initiatives and community activities.
Fairmont Hanoi colleagues also participate in initiatives such as blood donation programmes and other opportunities to contribute their time, skills and care to the community.

Sustainable hospitality begins with the people who bring it to life every day.
As a leading Eco-friendly luxury hotel in Hanoi, sustainability is integrated into our colleague orientation and ongoing learning programmes, helping teams understand how their individual roles can contribute to reducing energy, conserving water, limiting waste and creating positive social impact.
In preparation for our Green Globe audit, 168 colleagues received dedicated sustainability training, while broader Accor learning programmes covering Human Rights, preventing gender-based violence, anti-bribery and corruption, fair competition and WATCH – We Act Together for Children – have reached colleagues across the hotel.
We believe meaningful progress comes when sustainability becomes part of everyday decision-making rather than a separate initiative.
Our 2026 Journey As An Eco-Friendly Luxury Hotel in Hanoi
As an Eco-friendly Luxury Hotel in Hanoi that opened its doors in March 2026, Fairmont Hanoi is building the foundations for measurable, long-term sustainability from the beginning.
Our 2026 priorities include establishing reliable baselines for energy, water, waste and food waste; eliminating non-exempted single-use plastics; strengthening waste segregation; introducing carbon menu assessments; evaluating composting solutions; developing indoor hydroponic farming; and progressing towards independent sustainability certification.
These commitments are measured, reviewed and continuously refined as part of our Sustainability Management Plan.
For us, sustainability is not a destination. It is an ongoing responsibility—to our city, our people and the journeys that bring our guests to Hanoi.
